Half-Japanese actress Nichole Bloom (who I previously featured here and here) is in the current issue of Maxim magazine. She appears in a raunchy photo spread (is there any other kind in Maxim?) along with two of her female co-stars from the new Todd Phillips produced film Project X, which is due out in theatres on March 2.

So I was watching No Strings Attached the other day, and I got to the part where Adam (Ashton Kutcher) goes out with two women Joy and Lisa who end up making out with each other while wearing only their underwear, when my hapa-dar went off – it looked to me that Lisa was half-Asian. I looked her up afterwards and her name in real life is Vedette Lim, and yep she’s a hapa.

Apparently she’s on the HBO show True Blood, in which plays a lesbian (I guess kissing girls is a common thing for her to do on screen) cage fighter named Naomi who gets naked (NSFW link) with another cage fighter named Tara. And she recently had a guest role as a pediatrician on Grey’s Anatomy. Which would explain why I hadn’t seen her til now – I would rather die than watch an episode of either of those shows. (sorry Vedette!)

The L.A. Clippers have long been the laughingstock of the NBA, but they made great strides last season developing young talent, and this offseason they’ve made an acquisition that could finally vault them ahead of their arch-rivals, the L.A. Lakers: Michelle Clegg. Ok it’s actually Chris Paul, but Michelle is a pretty fine pickup too!

When I first posted about Michelle last year (see here), she had just graduated from UCLA after serving three years on their Spirit Squad. Well, this past summer she landed a spot with the Clippers Spirit dance team and, now that the NBA lockout is finally over, we will finally get to see her (and the team) in action!

Michelle (and Chris) will make their Clippers debut on Christmas Day against the Golden State Warriors at 10:30pm Eastern Time on ESPN.

Now if only the Clippers could somehow add Kevin Love to their roster so they can stage a uber-hot-UCLA-cheer-babe reunion featuring Michelle and Kevin’s girlfriend Elise Novak… hey, one can dream, right?

Hannah Simone (the subject of my previous post) is not the only lady of partial South Asian descent who is starring on a new Fox television series this season. The Spielberg-produced sci-fi mega-production “Terra Nova” features not one, but two such ladies: Shelley Conn (who is of British and Sri Lankan descent) and Naomi Scott.

Naomi Scott is an actress, singer, and musician from London, England. Her mother is Gujarati (raised in Uganda) and her father is British. You might recognize her from the Disney movie Lemonade Mouth, which also starred half-Japanese musician/actress Hayley Kiyoko.

It’s not surprising that Disney would cast a couple of half-Asian girls to star alongside white males in one of their movies – it’s a phenomenon that I’ve written about before. What’s interesting is that Terra Nova seems to have taken this approach as well: the male members of the Shannon family (the father and the son) are fully white, while the female members (the mother and two daughters) are not. I’m not going to complain though about a system that puts beautiful mixed-race women like Naomi and Shelley into prominent starring roles on screen.

If you’ve seen the new Fox TV show “New Girl”, starring Zooey Deschanel as a quirky girl named Jess who moves in with three guys she just met, then you will recognize Hannah Simone as Jess’s gorgeous model friend CeCe.

Last week’s episode “CeCe Crashes”, with its focus on and character development of CeCe, was in my opinion the best episode since the brilliant pilot. My favorite part was when CeCe asked one of the guys if he knew her ethnic background, leading to this hilarious exchange:

Here is Hannah’s description of her actual background, courtesy of her interview with OpenChest.com:

“I’m a multi-ethnic person so I think most people are surprised by any part of the puzzle. My father is Indian, my mother is half German-Italian and half Greek-Cypriot. More people are surprised by where I grew up! Saudi Arabia, Cyprus, India, England and Canada isn’t a normal answer to that question. Being raised as someone who is multicultural and multi-ethnic has been the greatest gift to me.”

When I featured half-Japanese singer/songwriter Kina Grannis on the site back in August 2010, I mentioned that she had just started working on a “secret crazy project”, which Kina frequently referred to on Twitter as “the SCP”. Well, yesterday we finally got to see the result of her more-than-yearlong work on the SCP: the new music video for her latest single “In Your Arms”.

The video features Kina and 288,000 jelly beans painstakingly photographed in stop-motion animation. The effect is something along the lines of a Peter Gabriel video on steroids. Except with a really cute girl instead of some weird looking dude.
