Kina Grannis

Kina Grannis is a singer/songwriter from Mission Viejo, California. She has a Japanese mother and a Caucasian father (a mix of English, Irish, French, Dutch, Welsh, and Scottish).

She first became famous for winning a Doritos-sponsored contest that featured her in a Super Bowl XLII ad on February 3, 2008. She had already self-released three albums by then, and she has since released a studio album this year entitled Stairwells. She went on tour earlier this year to promote the album, and she will continue touring this fall on the west coast as well as Texas and Florida.

She is currently working on a secret crazy project that she has devoted a lot of time to the past few weekends.

You might notice some biographical similarities with Marié Digby. Both are half-Japanese singer/songwriters from California that became very popular on YouTube after having created YouTube channels in 2007. Both were part of the Lilith Fair tour this summer. Both even posted similar song-recognizing tweets within a few hours of each other on Monday:

Kina is on Twitter @kinagrannis and has a website, a Facebook page, a MySpace page, and a YouTube channel.

Also check out this interview from 2008 and this recent interview.

Pictures and video (she looks especially cute in the second video) after the jump.

good singer… she looks soo spanish with that curly hair. bet she looks even prettier with straight hair and her asian side might come out more.

  2. Ethan says:

Great singer, Kina is. Half Japanese & half white? Between her hair and skin-tone, she looks like her non-Asian half is black, not white… or more, not fully white. Her dad must have some black in him. She’s beautiful either way.

  3. Tina says:

I agree with Ethan. There is NO way this girl is only Japanese and White. She’s looks more mixed with black than white.

Her dad is actually white !

  5. Blaine says:

A lot of French people have this type of skin tone. It’s possible that it’s just because of that.
