Malese Jow

I discovered this girl while watching Leverage on TNT the other night. She was a guest star on the episode “The Boost Job” playing an aspiring teenage car thief. As soon as I saw her I knew she was half-Asian. I looked her up afterwards on IMDB and Wikipedia, and indeed she has a Chinese father and a Caucasian/Cherokee mother. Her full name is Elizabeth Melise Jow.

She’s actually been in the public eye for a while even though she’s only 19 years old. She starred alongside Emma Roberts as Geena on the Nickelodeon series Unfabulous from 2004 to 2007. She was on an episode of iCarly last year as the look-alike of Miranda Cosgrove (who incidentally is not at all Asian even though she kinda looks part-Asian). She also appeared this past year on the CW series The Vampire Diaries as the vampire Anna, and she is in the upcoming Facebook-inspired movie The Social Network playing the best friend of Brenda Song (who is herself half-Thai and half-Hmong).

Like fellow half-Chinese actress Olivia Munn, she was born in Oklahoma and later moved to California.

She is also a pop singer and songwriter. She regularly posts songs on her MySpace page and her YouTube channel.

Malese is on Twitter @xomalese and also has a Facebook page and Tumblr.

Picture after the jump, as well as a video update she put on YouTube this week, and a video of her appearance in Leverage.
