Maxim 2011 Hot 100: Melanie Iglesias, Olivia Munn, and more

Maxim 2011 Hot 100

Earlier this week, Maxim posted their Hot 100 list for 2011. Included in the list are seven ladies who are of partial Asian descent:

A couple of thoughts:

One, how is Melanie Iglesias all the way at the bottom at #100? My guess is they lowballed her because they didn’t want to over-rate one of their own (she is the reigning Maxim Hometown Hotties champion), but really she should be ranked much higher – and I’m not the only one who thinks so.

And two, how is there only one half-Asian in the top 50? At least they have Olivia Munn all the way up at #2, though I would have put her in the #1 slot ahead of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (i.e. the naked girl on the cover depicted above). Oh well, Olivia, maybe next year!

Nicole Scherzinger

Nicole Prescovia Elikolani Valiente Scherzinger is best known as the lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls. She was born in Honolulu to a Filipino father and a Hawaiian/Russian mother. She grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, where she was raised by her mother and stepfather (from whom she received her German last name), and she went to college at Wright State University.

She got her start in the music industry as a backing vocalist for Days of the New. She later competed in the original version of WB’s Popstars, earning a spot on the girl group Eden’s Crush. After the group folded, she worked on a few other projects before becoming the lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls, which up until that point had been exclusively a burlesque group. Their biggest hit, “Don’t Cha”, is a play on Sir Mix-A-Lot’s classic jam “Swass”. She has also had success as a solo artist.

More recently, she was the winner of season 10 of Dancing with the Stars, starred in a production of the musical Rent with fellow part-Filipina singer/actress Vanessa Hudgens, and is reportedly set to be a judge on the US version of Simon Cowell’s X-Factor (she was previously a guest judge on the UK version of the show).

Like fellow half-Asian beauty Jessica Michibata (who is dating Jenson Button), Nicole is dating a Formula One race car driver (Lewis Hamilton).
